Carriage built by the house “Offord and Sons” very appreciated for the quality of all their work, especially in the construction of the so-called carriages “Governess Car” or “Tub Carts”.
In particular this carriage was a special order for the Christmas parades that were held in London in the mid-twentieth century (London Christmas Parade) and used to be drawn with ponies and driven by dwarves disguised as Lilliputians, so with time was known as The Car of Lilliput (Lilliput Coach).
Restoration
After a first visual examination performed on the piece, it is possible to notice a very poor state of conservation. Especially highlights the attack of xylophagous insects, possibly active and appreciable through numerous holes present in the lower area of the box.
The solutions developed for its complete restoration include the treatment of the box with the proper desiccation of xylophages, the treatment of the underbody with the recovery of its pictorial layer, the wheels with the complete elimination of the oxidations and recovery of the tissues in the upholstery. .
Highlight the complete restoration and arrangement of its lanterns, including the replacement of the crystals, and the restoration of the set of English swinging arms with its spear through ash wood.
